Story of Little Orphan Annie
Little
Orphan Annie was born in 1985 to a Hilaches daughter
by the name of Habanera que tal. This was her first
baby and she did not want to nurse so there was a
delay in Annie getting the nourishment she needed.
She was a little frail and did not grow fast. When
she was a weanling, she injured her hip, which caused
a slight deformity in her rear conformation. Her owners
Stan and Jeantte Snider knew they would not be able
to show her and it would be difficult to get anyone
to care for her properly, so she was adopted by Georgie
and Raymond Guidry who took her home to love in 1987.
She remained small and narrow in build, and was a
pretty black with two hind socks and star. Her tail
grew so long it dragged at least 6-8 inches on the
ground. The Guidry's grandchildren trained and rode
her. She never faultered in her gait and was full
of brio. She also gaited naturally in the pasture,
and was exceptionally smooth under saddle, even with
the bad hip.
The Guidrys
kept her until July 2002. By this time, the grandchildren
had grown, so she was just sitting around. A friend
had a little girl so we gave her to the little girl
to ride. I just spoke with the friend and she has
given her again to another little girl to ride who
lives not too far away in Hammond, LA. Annie has a
30 acre pasture to run in and is still giving pleasure
to kids.
